As a label it causes alot of confusion.

For reference I'm an ethnic black American, not an immigrant black.

The 1st issue is I and ppl like me are not actually african.

2nd issue is the label "African-American" conflates us with foreigners/immigrants

Then there's the whole, ppl like Elon Musk technically being "African-American" thing

Bottom line is. The phrase causes to much confusion, and probably should be retired.
