It's hard to explain, but it's enough to make anyone who's an expat annoyed or skin crawl. I don't know how many conversations I've been in where been having a decent conversation chilling with people only for them or someone in the group to drop that question and that's the only topic they focus on. The entire group will latch onto it and try to find out whatever "secret" they think exists to doing it.
Tell them they need to just say fuck it, going to lose some friendships, going to have to change myself, or need to study more? Nope! there has to be another way
Tell them that being a NEET and living off daddy's money with 15k credit card debt to see things abroad doesn't qualify them for a job? Nope! It does I know someone who did it
Explain that you'll really need to be your own boss, self-motivated, and it's not as glamours as the YT videos? Nope! doing it wrong I know I saw a vlog about it
Show them that working abroad and not for a US company actually is a step down in pay and quality of life? Tiktok didn't say that... Besides ORANGE MAN BAD!
There is nothing more irritating than being abroad and someone asking you "HOW DO I DO UR LIFESTYLE" then hit them with facts and they either zone out in the first 10 seconds explaining it requires work towards it. Or the alternative you get told nuh uh that's not how expats do it, they know they just haven't done it but could and whatever you say is wrong because tiktok/instagram/youtube post said it was easy! They just need you to tell them the ~secret~.
It's hard to explain but it can be a night ender if around the wrong people who won't drop the subject.
