Good fundamental mechanics, Hot Shots Golf (and by extension Mario Golf pre-SR, since Camelot made the first HSG before splitting off to make MG) are genuinely competently made golf games that stick to good fundamental mechanics.
This new one seems to keep that core identity while adding a bunch of side modes to add more of a party appeal too.

The fundamental gameplay mechanics for Super Rush are horrible and the game puts way too much faith in the Speed Golf mode to make actually interesting course layouts. The entire game suffers from the drawing board gimmick ruining everything else that was fundamentally fine. The items in World Tour show you can make traditional Hot Shots-esque golf Mario-like without having to redo everything from the ground up, and I don't know why they didn't just expand on that concept instead of making a game that's both not fun to play and shits on the very idea of golf in Mario GOLF.
I just hope that new Hot Shots game is good.
