Easy Come Easy Golf just got an update to add 60fps and some other shit. It even works on switch 1 and runs pretty good. Only framerate dips is when tons of characters are on screen which only happens on the congratulations screen.

Sort of? The courses get progressively more difficult, but the point of the game isn't ball-punching difficulty. You just learn how to play each characer/course and have fun with it. You can always mess up a shot and have to recover.

Mario Golf Super Rush is a disaster.
Half of the game is totally bland, and the other half is just plain annoying.
The only depth to the gameplay is in a mechanic that changes the ball's trajectory when it's already in the air. It takes the focus away from what matters in golf, even in an arcade game, and puts it on some shitty air ball control.
There are entire game modes that make no sense. The developers didn't even test them to see if they were balanced.

When I tried selecting it on the main menu nothing happened so I assume you have to finish the beginner golf tutorials to unlock it like with pacman

I did an online game but I think all the players turned into bots halfway through the 18 holes because they stopped emoting and CPU shows up on their power gauges

You're not wrong, the analog sensitivity feels like it was tuned by a guy who’s never held a controller. I barely nudge the stick and suddenly I'm aiming for the parking lot behind the clubhouse. Honestly feels like they slapped it in last minute so they could say "hey look, innovation!" Turn on classic controls or remap if you can, because unless you’ve got surgeon hands, it ain’t worth the frustration.

They nailed the game's physics.
It's arcade-like, but it's also challenging. The power bar is very fast, so unless you're extremely autistic, you'll often be inaccurate with your shots, which means you'll have to do a lot of mitigating during matches. It's at the level you'd expect from Everybody's Golf games, which are quite difficult. Much harder than Easy Come Easy Golf, too, which is good.
The problem is optimization. I can't get 144fps on my RTX 3090, even at 1440p. And the game makes my GPU work much harder than it should, considering the graphics.

On my PC (i9 10900/RTX 3090), it's running between 110-140 fps (1440p). But the graphics seem pretty basic, even some textures are super low-res, so I'd expect 144 fps in a game like this. I usually play games at 60 fps because I don't like my GPU making 80 decibels of noise in my ears, but in this game, even 60 fps at 720p still forces my GPU to work hard enough for the fans to run at 100%, which doesn't happen even in graphically more impressive games. So I'd say the optimization is shit, but if you have a decent PC, you won't have any problems, except for the inconveniences I mentioned.

The only ones I can think of are the Mario handheld entries, which stopped being made after GBA, and Powerful Golf, which is Japan-exclusive and uses the PowerPros lifesim format. Beyond that there's Golf Story which is solid and its very bad sequel. It's worth mentioning outside of Powerful Golf, all of these games are 2D. This side of golf games is pretty dormant unfortunately.

This is the niche Hot Shots is supposed to fill while also being serious as a game mechanically. Lots of offbeat course designs that wouldn't exist in a raw sim golf game, and in this entry specifically there's a lot of side modes to do sillier things.
The arcade golf genre's also in a pretty dire state right now since Hot Shots was dormant for almost a decade, Mario Golf shat the bed with Super Rush, and Sony cutting Japan Studio and by extension Clap Hanz meant ECEG had to be more of a low budget title, so there's genuinely a hole to fill in this genre.

It's quite different from Ultimate Swing Golf, and even from Easy Come Easy Golf, which is the basis for Ultimate SG.
I think Easy Come Easy Golf is more polished since you don't have problems like not being able to adjust where you're aiming because the controls are too sensitive, for example. The effects are better too, the feedback, and everything in ECEG is better done.
But Everybody's Golf Hot Shots is more difficult at first. All shots in it require at least some concentration so you don't miss, while in ECEG, with the stick, you can place the ball exactly where you want it on virtually every shot you take.

Normally, this type of thing is done so that players don't abuse the system and completely bypass putting. They force you to putt on the green no matter the distance, which creates somewhat ridiculous situations where it's better to hit the ball off the green depending on the distance. In Easy Come Easy Golf, you'll do this all the time, because the players' favorite clubs make the ball follow the hole, so you often shouldn't play the ball on the green.
This problem also occurs in simulators. I remember that one of the successors to Golf Club had the problem of players simply not using putter even on the green because the chances of success were much higher using other clubs.

Mon Dieu... That was wrong. The movement of the lines and their speed indicate the direction and extent of the slope -- you aimed straight at the hole, as if were a flat surface, when it was clearly sloping to the left (should have been halfway across one square).

It's a thing you get a feel for, and each HSG/EG game varies slightly in how you read the greens. The chad mode was back on HSG4, when you could turn off all guides and grids, to be left with only a few streaks on the green to clue you in to the shape of the green... fun times.

I was only able to play for 57 minutes, but I think it's good. There are caveats. There are things that aren't quite polished. The controls are sometimes too sensitive, and there are some effects that I think are terrible, like the stutter when you hit a perfect shot. I also hate the feeling the game gives during putting, it seems like there's a mismatch between the sound, the player's club, and the speed at which the ball moves. It's very unpleasant, I don't know how to explain it, it reminds me more of a pool simulator than a golf simulator.

You have to hit a certain level with the character. I think it's like level 11 or something.
