the USA meat industry has been artificially manipulated into high prices since Bush era. It has nothing to do with costs, the beef manufacturers will intentionally let their stock rot in cold warehouses before selling it domestically in way that lowers domestic prices (ie. increasing supply)- a move they've pulled every single time they've been stuck with product they couldn't sell overseas. It's long-term conditioning of consumers to pay higher prices to increase profits while doing nothing to obtain actual growth, while their monopoly-like size and regulatory capture oppresses any chance for any potential competitors to take advantage of their greed and inefficiency.
When the spooky "meat industry collapse" actually happens will be on a day of the many Luigi's saying enough is enough to their games and meat becomes normal priced again.
