SERIES S WAS THE DOWNFALL OF XBOX
If this system had included a disk drive and standard, upgradable storage rather than relying on proprietary solutions it likely would have seen far greater success.
They could have bundled it with a basic controller and allowed users to bring their own, helping offset the cost of adding a disk drive.
The concept of a midrange Xbox was solid, but the execution fell short unsurprisingly, given Microsoft’s track record.
People are financially stretched. Consoles often need to be sold at a loss, with profits made through services and ecosystem engagement. Now the consequences of not doing that are becoming obvious.
The Series S had real potential, especially for budget conscious consumers, but it lacked key features that would have made it a truly compelling option.
