Yeah, Sonic should've been punished too in one form or another for his idealistic naivety. I'm not excusing Sonic for anything. However, I can understand the hesitation due to sega being overly protective of how Sonic himself is portrayed. Lanolin on the other hand, not being a mainstay character, should have much more freedom, in terms of the writer coming up with an interesting scenario, where character development from drama could form and evolve, but the writers don't capitalise on it. A lot of readers are sick of Ian and Evan making excuses for their lackluster conclusions and bare boned story lines.

Lack of consequences, drama, interactions, it pales in comparison to the Archie run. IDW is frustratingly boring. Now you can say it's sega being cunts, or ideological limitations, but the writer's job is to find a way to write around these limitations to still manage to make an interesting enough story to attract readers and to maintain the current fan base. However, Ian and Evan don't seem to be capable of having the talent to do that.
