Yeah that's usually the case. Grass-into anything is always what Qiyana wants to do but here I think I'd take earth too just for the extra damage.
Cancelling Qiyana E with Vayne E really doesn't matter actually, considering her Q does literally like 50 damage early game that'll never be the reason why you missed a kill, it's not like cancelling a Rakan dash for example.
I'm strictly speaking on the principle of resource management. Qiyana has 2 spells that each counter one of Vayne's. You can W forward to keep up with Vayne Q and E forward after getting pushed back by Vayne E (so long as you dont get stunned).
Had the Qiyana simply kept her resources in hand she could have easily secured the kill just off of getting value from her positioning and then evenly trading spells afterwards
