If your representatives are committing treason, they're removed. They're the only people that are officially recognized by the US. Everyone else in the state literally doesn't matter. So, when the treasonous people are removed, a special election is called because your state has no people representing it.
Proof is that's just how it be when you commit treason. The federal government doesn't "take over," it just prevents functioning until a new government is elected. It wouldn't have to be this way if you would simply follow the law that your state signed your people into.
