I think it goes hand in hand with the journey that amy has had with sonic over the years, like in all her games up until x a lot of it feels like a girl's dumb crush, puppy love right? Even in the anime in some parts, but what makes this scene so poignant to me is the admission Amy has to herself where, when faced with the real prospect that Sonic may be gone forever, she makes the decision to keep him in her heart forever, even if she became old and gray she would have always waited for him. It elevates the love into a more real feeling thing, she LOVES him, hard, and really cute how frustrated she gets with those intense emotions and how she wants him to comfort her in that moment, and he does in a characteristically chill and confident way, and it's extraordinarily cute and lovey.
