capitalism is a death cult. this is what happens when everything you need to raise a family, like housing, healthcare, food, education, is turned into an investment commodity. Under the ussr the Birthrate was at a consistent 3 birth per family for soviet bloc countries. Then 1991 happened and the birthrate across Europe collapsed. The liberal democracies of Europe no longer needed to provide an alternative to disenfranchised workers and instituted neoliberalism/thatcherism on a massive scale privatizing the entire continent.
The population of a lot of Eastern European countries peaked in the 80s and immediately dropped in the 90s due to the soaring death rate. the fall of communism and the institution of privatization, western companies and oligarchs buying up the SOEs for pennies on the dollar. was a massive humanitarian crisis.
So it's funny to me how right wingers, instead of looking at the bigger picture. Blaming income inequality and privatization, they instead fall for right wing populism, and institue more privatization reforms. America under Trump last election is a great example.
