>For example they said multiple times that PoE1 story is nonsense
said who? poe1 story is pretty straight forward.
>start out as bum exiled to derelict continent
>make your way and grow in power level until encounter black legion (gravicious, piety, dominus)
>smash through it and make your way into the beast, containment prison for all the big bads of wraelcast
>smash the beast and release everybody
>get back to oriath for revenge flick
>big bad all across wraelcast wrecking havoc. turns out oriath (the island) was a cannibal den complete with its man eating god before the templars
>now trek across the continent again to contain all the big bads unleashed from prison
>confront cannibal island and smash it
>the atlas, end game, is a device opening portals into infinite loops of alternate worlds with infinite variations of outcomes. that also inhabit cosmic entities like the maven
>they also contain previous characters, like zanas former party members, that grew too powerful and were consumed by the desire of infinite slaughter for infinite power (typical arpg character)
only parts about poe 1 world building that are iffy are mostly league mechanics bolted on to the core mechanics. like heist or settlers
I dont get these complaints about arpg stories being always bad. root cause seems to be most arpg players have the attention span of a goldfish and would much rather start mapping at level 1 in a free roam format with zero plot. some even seem to take pride in skipping every piece of text, no matter how short they are
