I can only speak on being Muslim in a western country. I am not Muslim myself, in fact I am as far from that as possible as I am a Jew, but I've had Muslim friends for a long time now. One of their fathers even runs the store my mom does part time work at.
In the west, the Muslim community is incredibly tight knit and oriented around mosques and the occasional Islamic Center if the city has several mosques. They constantly speak about what's called the "ummah" or "Muslim Community as a collective whole" and, ironic coming from me, a rather transactional approach to religion. They are always scratching each other's backs or donate to Muslim exclusive causes.
>Recently moved to the US and need a bed and a car?
"Someone held onto their beat up '92 Chevy that they'll let you use for free for the next 6 months before their cousin moves to the US and they know a guy who has a room he'll rent you for $200 per month if you work in his store"
>I was laid off and have a family
"No problem brother, here's some rent money we gathered together and you'll start at Waleed's tomorrow in the mean time. Here's Abdullah's number, call him and he'll help you find something more permanent"
>I can't get a GF
"You're a good looking guy and have potential. Fatimah needs a good husband. Also, we the ummah have scraped together 10K so you can start your new family off right!"
>I am depressed, I am going no where in life, and I am broke as fuck
"Be a better Muslim and Allah will reward you." Then you start waking up at 5am for fajr and now your sleep schedule is unfucked. Local Muslims see you in mosque on Fridays and learn of your situation. Malik runs a business and charity and offers you a position doing basic accounting work at the charity while giving you time to start university for said position.
Never seen such a thing with Christians or even at my synagogue. The Jews where I go are all trying to Jew each other.
