Why did people misinterpret this film as a character assassination? This is one of the most human films I've seen in years. This is the story of a man who, despite everything he has done and suffered through, overcomes the darkness and saves his soul from damnation.

ok it wasnt THAT bad. if the first was ‘great’ then this one is ‘good’. if it was completely disconnected from a popular IP would it have had such scathing reactions? would the first one have had such positive reactions?
