Why did people misinterpret this film as a character assassination? This is one of the most human films I've seen in years. This is the story of a man who, despite everything he has done and suffered through, overcomes the darkness and saves his soul from damnation.

it pretty much kept the same themes and tone of the first movie. I dont believe it was made spitefully
>Joker: ‘realistic’ approach to a comic book character, a mentally damaged person who lashes out at society and ends up incarcerated very quickly, no superpowers, no action. joker is meant to be sympathetic
>Joker 2: the logical ‘realistic’ sequence of events is the guy stands trial for his crimes. no goons that break him out and he becomes a crime boss, no lady sidekick. same themes of bullying authority and mental illness. still portrays joker sympathetically. more delusions that were set up in the first film but staged as musicals. does not end happily for him (theres no way it could have in this scenario)
theyre tragedies

Those quotation marks are doing an awful lot of work.

yes, they both still contain fantastical elements, but the point is theyre still largely grounded in reality which is unusual for a comic book film

Joker 2 is way more cartoonish than the first one. It literally starts with a cartoon.

which signifies arthurs deteriorating mind. but unlike the first one it isnt meant to be a twist, theres a clear divide between these moments

It's not Hamlet, anon. It's a dumb comicbook movie that took itself too seriously and ended up being mid.

everyone is the main character of their own story until they get raped. some people are born to suffer and no amount of impotent rage will change that fact. the grace of God can only be received and never earned

It’s more subtle than the first movie emotionally and the way Joaquin acts. It also makes clear that both movies were about Arthur more than Joker. Which disappointed both fans irl and in the movie, because they don’t really care about Arthur.

It was a dumb movie, anon. Retards think they're reading complexity into but they're really just pointing out "theme exists" in the most superficial way imaginable, they're too dumb to realize it, and thereby polishing a turd.

Fans of the movie didn't think he had anything he needed to redeem himself for, they thought he was based because he is easy to empathize with. They wanted to see gotham get what it fucking deserved, not watch a broken man get kicked while he's down.

That’s the opposite of what people wanted to see. We wanted to see a whole movie of him reveling in being the joker, and becoming genuinely the persona/symbol that all the rioters assigned him at the end of the first movie.

this film is the one saying there was no redemption needed since he isnt the joker and character development we saw in the first film wasnt real he just went momentarily insane. A redemption arc would have been a fine idea if done right

Lady Gaga was transcendent, it was her movie. Why pay any attention to the Joker?

Which is lame. The entire point of the ending of the first movie was the catharsis of him becoming the joker genuinely.

I'm guessing you forgot the part where they rape the Joker. Comic slop may be slop. But nobody was prepared to watch the "clown prince of crime" get raped. If that was the case, Batman should have raped all the criminals and they would have "overcome the darkness and save their soul from damnation".

So did Joker just get sodomized with a nightstick or was he actually raped by the guards? I've seen people say he was only sodomized, but then why did one of the guards unbuckle his belt?

Lady Gaga is incredible. Her relationship with Marina Abramovic is so inspiring.
