Fuck yes. This bad boy is taking the field sunday. Hopefully it doesn't miss all game and die spectacularly. Would a battlesmith character in an Augur squad behind it be... too good? It can only return fire to other super heavies, but a free smoke screen sound pretty good. It would make it cost 940 effectively. Maybe not a good idea regardless.

Bostonian here. You’re kinda SOL for heresy stuff, it seems like the one line of GW products that isn’t carried around here. I’ve found the odd vehicle box here and there, but nothing with a full range. I’ve looked at places north of i90 and between 495 and 95, plus around the Nashua area, and it feels like a desert. 40k space marines are better than 30k space marines. They spend decades as a scout learning how to fight, becoming familiar with all their wargear, then they usually go for vehicle training after getting their full panoply, then they spend yet more decades learning specialized warfare before becoming a tactical marine. Their armory became restricted so they had to learn how to fight without all the gizmos the legions had access to and without the numbers to throw at the enemy while still having to accomplish the same tasks. The codex astartes just made sure that on top of the hypnotic conditioning that the space marines got they were painstakingly trained and molded into proper warriors. By the end of the heresy, even discounting how much of it was flash trained inductii chaff, how much of the legions had not fought the xenos and had just learned to fight fellow space marines? Sure fighting space marines is tough enough but it's not the same as fighting the ork hordes or the freakish horrors that were never really destroyed.
Guilliman ensured that space marines would be true to the Emperor's vision instead of just being one-trick muscleheads that were only better equipped mooks than the mortal armies.

On the subject of five million dracosans, what are the most efficient methods to take apart a car-park of cheap vehicles, especially Barrage artillery, without just bringing your own Barrage and getting in a template duel?

Can't multicharge this edition, so you can't just swarm several of them down at once. A deep-striking squad can only shoot one on their first turn, and can shoot and assault a total of 2 on any subsequent turns. Mech might be kind of fucked here, since they have no flyers so they are basically limited to that.

Fire Raptor sortie, maybe? It's Stable, so you can put the rockets into one target, autocannons into a second and bolt cannon into whatever. It'll do for rear AV10, but they can just back that against the board edge, and Strength is somewhat lacking for side AV12.

Shitty solar aux tanks don't really care about statuses, since they're barraging from stationary positions and not taking reactions anyway, so ten kraks only barely kills one of the things on average, but yeah, actually doing the damage in melee is not the issue, I'm wondering what units can point-efficiently get out there and remove a good number of artillery units without slogging across the entire board into six demolisher cannons and four basilisks first. Your average deep striking squad kills one tank, can't charge and then probably dies.

A Termite is quite points-efficient, it has its own melta-cutters so the cheapo combi squad inside can pop one target while it gambles on the small blast meltagun at 3" range.
Anonymous No.96380330 >>96380516
>>96380254
Gonna have to mix things and use several smaller units in that case. One single unit destroying entire tank squadrons each phase just isn't a thing any more. But neither is one tank evaporating entire infantry squads with each blast it shoots, so it evens out.
Anonymous No.96380516
>>96380330

The thing that makes that one a bit tricky is that there's the one-unit-limit on Deep Strike, so you do probably want to optimise for getting as many tank kills out of that one unit as possible, and there will be a great many tanks.

Marines have it easiest here, because they have a great many high-firepower flyers and easy access to cheapish anti-vehicle capabilities.
Solar Aux have their own artillery carpark but can't reach the enemy backfield with much besides their own artillery, Mech have Termies but nothing with any anti-vehicle capability to put in them and no flyers of their own. A Tech-priest with a cheap servo-bot retinue could melta one and threaten to punch more to death in subsequent turns, I guess, those things have S8 D2 claws and cost 10pts per two attacks.

10 such attacks will likely inflict 4HP and 1 status on the target, but it's only ~1/63 to inflict 6HP via 3 Pens, destroying most AV10 havers outright, and even though it's much less likely that you get the Glances in that number, more than 3 means you start inflicting additional HP, so anything that inflicts a Status prior to that melee is worth doing

Potentially both the best and worst things that Spartan Games ever did. Both one of the best looking and playing games they ever did, and also the petard that finally did for them.

And whilst perhaps none of us are surprised that Spartan Games and their expensive habit of making new game system after new game system and telling fans of their core audience to fuck off eventually died. It is a shame that Wayland Games bought them.

I've heard there's some hatred towards the newest (3rd?) edition - how well warranted is it? Is it better to stick to one of the previous editions for now, considering that I don't particularly care for the playing The Newest Thing?

Also, any noob advice for preparing for and playing the first battle, easily forgotten/misunderstood rules, things to keep in mind etc.?

Legitimate question: do any of the Horus Heresy books contain any risque sexual situations? The setting seems to be fairly sanitized from the typical trappings of fantasy and science fiction, which is making the female characters arbitrarily sexual for no real reason.

Expanding on this, since the Emperor's Children went deep into depravity real fast, are there any mentions whatsoever of cultists or slaves being taken by them and used for anything but to be turned into drugs? Or is all of this kind of "safe horny" (mention, don't show) stuff primarily a 40K thing?

Pic related, how I imagine the average Civilized World Slaanesh Cultist to act once their space daddies come a-knocking.

>do any of the Horus Heresy books contain any risque sexual situations?
It's a series revolving around autistic supersoldiers whose sex drive got pretty much surgically removed, so no, there's not much of that, but there's some - Fulgrim (the novel) comes to mind, with the opera singer character beying quite openly sexually promiscuous and the opera scene turning into pretty much an orgy. And then a murder orgy when the marines can't handle or understand the rush of emotions and arousal they feel, so they unload them in the only way the know

Rolled a whole bunch of unique character vs unique character whiteroom duels to get myself used to the challenge system and was pleasantly surprised by how fun it was. The focus balance changing as people take wounds means there's actually a reason to use gambits other than Finishing Blow, even if "who gets FB" is still a strong determinant of early advantage.

Honourable mention to Raldoron, who did really well considering he has no EW and costs two-thirds of either Abbadon or Sigismund, and best in show to the Mechanicum Arcuitor Magisterium. 155pts for thunder hammer, cyber-familiar and Overcharged Reactors, plus the prime HQ slot for WS7 A6 and they're basically a coinflip against Sigismund's crit spam and win more often than not against Abby. They'll carve anything weaker than that into salami, since WS8 with Guide means they can charge, grab Finishing Blow and split skulls with a 3 damage hammer, then start boosting themselves up to A8 even if they lose Focus. If they don't charge they can still use POTMS to keep their weapon skill higher than their opponent, and they get to change their cybertheurgy buff up to the most useful one for the opponent, so if they're fighting a WS6 opponent they can swap to Fortify or Quicken depending on whether S9 or T6 is actually useful.

If Mech had a better way to deliver the Arcuitor into combat than either sticking them in a Triaros or infiltrating a unit of 3 for a ridiculous price, I'd say they're the most efficient duelists in the game. As is I'm still considering Arcuitor + 12 Echidnax as a backline patrol unit, they'll go even or better with Abby + 5 hammer Justaerin if they get to charge them.

HH Book 4, page 50 to 52. During the battle of Port Maw the "Triumph of Reason" was a flagship used to organise a counter attack against traitor forces in the aftermath of a devastating cyber attack.

The sons of Horus board the ship and meme on the mortal crew but then get stonewalled by the Legate Marshal unleashing hundreds of Charonites held in stasis.

For a moment it seems like the ogryn could repel the boarders, then Horus teleports in with the second wave and they slaughter everyone.

Sure they're not great against AV14 bricks but said bricks are horrible at fighting them too so both fliers and LRs can ignore one another.

My report from event to day.
Dark angels legion trait? Never really comes up, kinda worthless, they kinda feel like a naked legion

Inner Circle Knights, no longer a unit you wanna be aggressive with, makes a great unit to hold back in a LR, blasting things until something gets within your threat range to drive out, dump them out and get within 1" to make the garunteed charge

Breachers with las cutters again, pulling their fucking weight, able to just rush them up, jump outta a rhino, blast 2 las cutters then charge and do 2 more hits on them is a crazy way to pop vehicles fast.

Jet bike retinues are great, 3 wounds a pop makes them a damned if you do damned if you dont target.

Siege terminators again, doing gods work and being a complete fucking menace to MEQs

Cata terminators? If they are on foot can just fucking ignore them.

So funny that people are so hung up about this in the new edition, when this has always the case. Unless somebody lucked out insanely hard and rolled a double 6 units could just jog away in a brisk pace to avoid cataphractii on foot.

I just have my cataphractii command squad charge a unit on or near an objective, then let them stay on the objective. Good luck ignoring them when you need to capture the objective to keep up in points lol.
