The easiest way to justify an Asgore fight would be to have Friend corrupt/manipulate him, since Chapter 5 of Lord of the Hammer is "The Field of Pink and Gold", which means Friend will probably have some relevance. And if I recall correctly, Noelle comments on one of Spamton's items by saying something along the lines of "Reminds me of Asgore...", which feels like a deliberate comparison.
Regarding the prophecy, the wolf guy in Hometown calls Asgore "flower man", so I think that is definitely meant to be him.
