They were treated like children all the way up to age 18. Never allowed to grow up, get in trouble, finger-bang or give head as adolescents/teens, get bullied and deal with bullying, smoke cigarettes and drink beer, operate heavy machinery, go outside, get injured outside, etc.
This is what happens when you "protect the children".
