The reason Elio failed is because it has no appeal. The generic, dime-a-dozen beanmouth art style is part of the problem, definitely, but beyond that the main character is just a bland whiny kid and the premise has no real hook beyond "Look! Aliens!" with zero effort to make the aliens interesting.
