The team in Prometheus is lame because of their inherent assumptions: for no reason whatsoever they believe they are flying to Heaven to meet angels and God himself. They think whoever they encounter will be immortal, invincible, all knowing, and have fanastic mindlowing perfect reasons for creating humanity. Anything less than that is soulcrushing to them sending them into deep depression. It's really dumb. No one ever promised them that should be the case.

Should have been his own scifi series. It's a neat design and the idea had a lot of potential. Zero reason to restrict the movie to a shitty barren rock world except them pretending it's le Alien prequel it's obviously not.
