There is always some rigid hierarchy of topfag/king>fagsmods>VIPs>regulars>newfags.
If it is a server that offers some kind of content like mods then you want to be in the VIP channels to have access to the good shit since they will not share it with the nobodies.
Newfags basically get hazed and have to cuck and kiss the asses of everyone above them. If there is some kind of argument mods are always going to side with the VIPs over some newfag and everyone will shit on them.
So the goal is to be a mod or VIP so you can be in the mod channels shitting on and laughing at everyone.
In doing that obviously they have to follow the rules and not get banned but they also have to kiss the right asses to get recognized meaning you end up with a bunch of slaves circlejerking and sucking the cocks of the top users. They may need to run around playing games and being supporters or buying shit with actual money for the mods.
For the fags running the place this is a dream come true. Their own demiplane where they are a god with a bunch of sheep slaves.
Advancing in these cults can take months so the cultists also have sunk cost fallacy working on them where they eventually become terrified of leaving or getting demoted because they've wasted so much time and effort here.
It's like the worst aspects of a cult, high school, and corporate job all rolled together.
