You can blame "Japanese culture" but put the blame where it really belongs, squarely on Yuji Naka. He treated everyone like garbage and turned Sonic Team into a massively understaffed walled garden to protect his "creative vision" because he's a jealous psychopath. Is it any surprise he burned every bridge he had even afterwards and now has a delusional hatred of his old friend Naoto Oshima just because he actually stood up to him?
God bless the Sonic Battle team. Even at the time I was wondering "is this really okay for them to be releasing so many games so quickly...?"
