A lot of the old pulp fantasy stories do the same things its just framed differently. Convenient cure alls, magic being tied to stamina/soul/mana, bureaucratic systems and ordering, godly interference/influence, magic items, an emphasis on a characters "class"/profession/place in society are all staples of the genre.
