I kind of disagree. School is, if nothing else, benefitial to learning that you have to be part of a group (ie. society and so on) but I admit that I don't know where you lived so it may have been different as learning requirements are also wildly different from country to country.

It was extremely similar to me in engineering university, but the opposite in a sense.
All the profs would go on and on how much you need to study for the exams and how it's IMPOSSIBLE to pass if you don't study 10+ hours throughout the entire term (per subject of course) and I just listened to the lectures in person, studied a grand total of maybe 2 hours before an exam -if we're generous- and never got anything worse than a B (or its equivalent) in my life, but I mostly got As.
