On the contrary. When everything's gone straight to shit, people retreat into whatever entertainment they can. In times past a smart government used that as an opportunity for some effective wartime propaganda. Something that entertains every bit as much as shills its message. Scrap Happy Daffy is one of my favorite examples.
Video games have just become a poor value proposition. There's a rampant lack of QC among big budget releases, and too many predatory practices. Even if a game isn't shooting for "live service" status, it still tries to monopolize your time, money, and storage drive space. That said, the retro market is still going strong. There's still demand for good video games.
