Most SUfags here don't like lapidot and for various reasons
I personally don't like it because lapiss was a bitch to everyone, especially Peridot. Peri also had a lot of screen time taken away because of Zuke (who was a lapissfag) shipping it

Gohan is selfinsert bait. He was introduced as a bitchboy, most people who self insert are themselves bitchboys, and goes crazy to get a power-up. Bitchboy selfinserters see themselves as "nice guys" that'll 'werewolf' and show everyone why you shouldn't mess with them. Gohan also frequently lives alone with his mom, who obsesses over him. Bitchboy selfinserters have mommy issues and this resonates with them. Later when Gohan goes to highschool he's inexplicably popular, a common bitchboy selfinserter fantasy. And of couse, he moonlights as a superhero and that is a very very common bitchboy selfinserter fantasy. There are other reasons but these are the core ones.
Basically, Gohan plays into bitchboy self inserter power fantasies.
