It's not the murder that's the problem, its the way he went about it, and just made the district lose all semblance of stability, and then just plunged it into further war against other regions.
Killing the elders is not that big of a deal, since we do just that, and nobody even knows what they even do, or look like, only a few know they exist and they can easily keep their mouths shut.
The issue just obviously extends beyond the top families, and seeps into the entire district if you just topple the entire structure, especially when they have an autonomous re-arranging district based on income. Economy eats shit due to stunts like this too.
