My ISP has a smartphone app which has an option to get "free internet" by connecting to another person's wifi (no need for password). It works as long as that person is also a client of the same provider, and has the internet sharing thing turned on. My question is: how does this whole thing work (on a technical level)? also, could it be a security concern having that option turned on?

Firefox with Betterfox or Arkenfox is still a great option. You basically copy a file into your profile and you're basically done. There are a shit ton of FF forks out there but at the end of the day they're still FF. Ungoogled-chromium does support uBO even under MV3, so if you don't need anything else it's fine.

I personally don't like Brave but it's good enough I guess. You could also try more niche browsers like Surf, w3m, Lynx, qute, etc. but they're kind of shit desu. We'll just have to wait for Ladybird to come out.
