I think it's a retcon borne out of having to clarify the intention of the story.
Don't forget, Nemlei has everything planned out ahead of us, she does foreshadowing we are not aware of, and as such, what she thinks is a reasonable setup to conflict would go over our heads when we don't know what happens in episode 3.
For instance, Nemlei likes to have dialogue reprise to have it new meaning(like when you chase Ashley in ep3 flashback and for tag ending, or Sns fight vs ep1 fight, or "do it gently"), so its very well possible Burial already has some foreshadowing for what will hapepn in episode 3 with re-used/similiar dialogue or unique sprites.
