Even though I graduated college decades ago from an Ivy, I honestly barely learned all that much from the four (expensive) years. Wrote heaps of papers, but I was already pretty good at that from a good high school. It was literally anecdotes about business from my dad that taught me everything I needed to know to start at a corporate job and rocket through the ranks; I learned everything else on the job as I went.

If you're smart college can easily be a waste, but you DO have to be the sort of smart that seeks out and absorbs knowledge in your day-to-day or you can end up retarded. In my day that piece of paper was still important, though, even if it was obvious the value was already in steep decline.

Of course after I ended up running the company I made smart investments and quit working entirely -- as other posters in the thread have noted, that's the only right answer for intelligent men at the moment. Be your own boss, of your own company or your fucking garden shed, either one is honestly fine.
