I'd prefer to just start as a Chaos marine in current day 40k, you'd start as a black legion marine as the default Chaos undivided with the option of changing into the 4 monogod legions (Emperor's children, World eaters, Thousand sons, Death guard.) to get access to exclusive perks and weapons (I'm thinking going thousand sons would give you seeking bolter rounds and a teleport ability, Emperors children have permanent bonus movement speed and Sonic weapons etc.)

The story would be very simple... you're a power hungry marine who wants to ascend to a daemon prince fighting through hordes of guardsmen, ogryns, loyalist space marines, orks, tyranids, and necrons
