Torishima and Toriyama worked because they were just a pair of weirdos who liked bunny girls. Despite hating each other's guts at times, they respected one another as equals. The dynamic between Torishima and Toyotaro would be too uneven, and the latter's too engrossed in the manga/anime scene (and IP) to do anything fresh and interesting. It reminds me of when Nozawa said something along the lines of newer VAs regurgitating anime performances to the point that they sound like a copy of a copy.
