Many spells actually do consume the component, yes. If you have a particular spell you use often that uses bat guano, you'd need a satchel of bat guano.

But this is why most players just handwave it. If you have your spell pouch on your belt, no one asks questions, until an exceptionally rare component comes up, then the plot incorporates the search for that.

Because my other hobby is videogames and bg3 is one of the good ones. I play pretty much every crpg that is made, partly because I love videogames but also partly because it makes you a better player/gm because you see what other people are doing. Almost like homework, or practice. Reading books does the same thing. The more well read, and the more exposed you are to a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction, the better player/gm you are. A history book can help you craft a more realistic feudal empire for your game, a book on military logistics can help you craft a more realistic military setting for your game, etc. A good gm is always hungry for things that can make a more fun and involved experience for their players.

Plus I love seeing everything on screen, the spell effects, the animations, it's all a joy to see.
