The core problem, or I guess you could say the underlying reason, for why Wonder Woman's origin keeps getting retooled isn't because there isn't a definite version but rather due to the fact that most writers don't like it since it gets in the way of what they really want to do with her. See unlike with Batman and Superman where their origins and motivation to becoming superheroes are pretty basic and leaves lots of wiggle room for the direction of their characters, Wonder Woman not only is a bit more limiting but it also makes it definite that she is in love with a living character(most of the time). I didn't save the image but some anon posted an image showing of some page where Wonder Woman's origins were first officially confirmed and its about how Steve crashing at the island and falling in love with him is the primary reason she got the courage to leave and become a superhero.
So as you can see with that, unless they actually like/self insert as Steve, most of the writers would rather rewrite her origin so as to find a way to get Steve out of it so that they can have Wonder Woman end up with their OC or another DC character they self insert into without making her seem like a hoe. This is also why they flip flop on her being made of clay or a goddess, as that can makes it harder for them to make a "hypothetical" kid come from her and whatever guy they are setting her up with.
