Tbf I've gotten over it a long time ago when you think about it being mostly just Surge "outsmarting" Metal in a way that I can kind of see happening. Granted its still the writers breaking the "Lets break Metal Sonic's powerscale consistency" glass because Metal would've adapted to any slick tricks judging by how long they were fighting. But honestly considering Batman just instantly knocks him out with the bat mobile cycle, that is a lot more tame in comparison
