700 years ago Europe was a backwater compared to China. 1000 years ago Europe was a backwater compared to the Islamic World. 1800 years ago southern Europe, i.e. the Roman Empire, surpassed even Han China.
Times change, and just because India is shit today and the West remains desirable, does not mean that in, say, 200 years, the situation will remain this way. The only constant is change.
Europe is rapidly losing its luster and going from a moderately wealthy region to a middle income region comparable to Mexico today or to the Czech Republic in 1994.
It won't always be the case that poor people wish to migrate to the West, especially Europe, because Europe's material standard of life is in inexorable decline and cannot be salvaged nor prevented from much deeper decline. The continent is in enormous, unrepayable debt, atop having a dying native population, etc. etc.
America will remain attractive for longer than Europe will, but our fate is sealed as well. We have squandered our national treasure, our military morale and dominance, our reputation for invincibility along with our reputation for freedom, through decades of insane politics, needless warmongering, weaponizing the terms of trade, committing human rights abuses that America in the old days said it would never condone like torture, and so on and so on.
Thus America will remain an attractive destination for Indians and Africans for some decades more, and for a longer future horizon than Europe will, but America's luster is, likewise, fading.
And for this: we have the Two World Wars to thank. The belligerents on each side, first the Allies and the Central Powers, then the Allies and the Axis Powers, are to blame, for they were all fanatics spoiling for a fight over domination of Europe while presuming Europe would remain preeminent in the world no matter how much destruction they wreaked. Foolish pride before the downfall, the Hubris that summons the cosmic justice of Nemesis.
