I live in a small tourist town in western NC that got wiped out by Hurricane Helene last fall. I've lived here for 20 years and since the flood I've tried to help the local businesses. Case in point, there's a little market that opened up. I browse through and they don't really have anything that interests me but they have a bottle of soda that I like so I get one.....$3.50 for one bottle of soda. Recently a candy shop opened and I sent my grandmother there to get some candy for a friend's birthday, she came back with two Almond Joy bars that they charged her over $5 for.
Its not all like this of course, the local farmers and produce stores all sell nice produce at reasonable prices; but these little shops that are just doing resale seem to be all in on jewing their customers and I'm just not generous enough to let myself get fucked solely because someone lives in the same town as me.
