Not only was it not made by Irrational and Ken wasn't involved, but it also brought up collectivism as if it were "communism but somehow not communism but better than all the others" on its face with said face being Sophia Lamb, one of the most insufferable antagonists because around the time this game came out, the tumblr mob with the sjw cult of personality started to rise and spread en masse all over every form of social media available to spout their rhetoric--and Lamb effectively was mouthing the exact same shit.
Of course, anyone who actually played the game realized the game was dunking on all of this and Lamb ultimately was even more wrong than Ryan (which is an achievement onto itself) and the game was actually very good. It just had the single most fatal flaw of a Bioshock game: no backtracking possible. Meaning once you reached the end of the game, that was it. There was no "turn back" point where you could return and go find shit you missed out on. You had to get EVERYTHING on your first go, or else replay the entire fucking game from scratch to get EVERYTHING on that go. Add in the multiplayer which originally was being peddled as some god fucking awful CoD ripoff when people were openly sick of shunted in multiplayer in single player games (but wound up being actually very solid and fun, funny enough), and the game was rightfully shat on for the most part for these misgivings up until the DLC released. Then opinions on the game finally began to turn once the kneejerking wore off.
Then Infinite came after Levine famously shat on 2, and it made everyone rethink 2 entirely thanks to Levine showing his whole idiot ass. In retrospect, it's genuine comedy.
