They might have forgotten the minute details, specially if they have been stuck for far too long, but the name thing may be some privacy thing or perhaps something more esoteric like Caine can't control their minds because he doesn't know the name of the soul he is trying to control or whatever. It doesn't matter what experiences they had before joining that's all in the past, anyone could have gone through those but what truly matters is the Identity built from those experiences, to what name does this life belong?
