Kinda felt this before.
I've recently gone out on my own away from my parents. Moms pretty religious and used to hate shit like Harry Potter but she fucking loses it now and called sown a lot on that kinda shit.
Though she still periodically asks me if I'm watching or doing "bad stuff" in gmaes or movies.
I was telling her I was going out to the movie on my own for the first time to see Weapons, I described the plot to her and she said "aren't there other movies you could watch instead of those sad movies? It doesn't have demons or anything in it does it?" and that took me aback.
It's weird that I like watching/playing stuff that makes you think or makes you uncomfortable, but my parents always avoid such things and feel uncomfortable when such things make them think.
I wish people wouldn't dismiss something because it elicits a feeling in you you don't like.
