I believe it. That 2021 update where they had to 'scrap' the Birch forest update spooked them. Better to pretend those concepts never existed than to admit they don't want to add them.

Still waiting on the biome updates.

With this, I'm coping that they'll update the desert biome soon.

Unfulfilled promises on their end.
Stuck with 1.7.10 ever since.
