Act 1 is the most solidly "D&D like" part and was playtested tons by early access people. It helps that early player levels feel more balanced and different classes are still fun and unique. Act 2 is built around a game mechanic (the darkness stuff) which is simultaneously both annoying and pointless given how easy it is to circumvent. It's also really easy to accidentally lock yourself out of loads of content in Act 2 by talking to Isobel too early. Act 3 is great but clearly missing an extra 10- 20 hours of content which rings true when you find out giant bits of it were cut out to release the game on time. Act 3 also suffers from being way too easy even on the higher difficulties- your party will have so many OP strategies by that point you have to self impose restrictions just to make it a challenge. It also feels like you just run from boss fight to boss fight without real progression/ exploration.
I will say this is still one of the best games I've ever played and the characters who all started off seeming like reddit incarnate really grow on you. It 100% feels like a coherent journey you go through with them and my autistic ass at least felt like I was leaving good friends behind when I stopped playing.
Honestly if this game just had another couple of years in development it would have gone from one of the best to being transcendent.
