Why does it feel this entire game is carried by Act 1
Anonymous No.717659113 [Report] >>717659390
Because devs run out of money and passion very quickly into a game's development. This is true of like 90% of games.

Act 3 was my favorite part, I didn't really like Act 1 but that's because it's a long ass exposition dump for gameplay. I've never been a huge fan of opening acts in games. They always have a handholding type vibe to them.

sounds like we'd be better off with 90% less games.

It's BG3. Act 1 sucking off is usually the meta because of how popular the game got and the fact a bunch of normies replayed Act 1 numerous times with a bunch of different friends and likely never got to baldurs gate.

Because you realized how shallow the game is by the time you got to act 2.

The end of Act 1 was weak which dives straight off a cliff into Act 2. Early access also only had the first act readily available, so it obviously received most time and attention. Act 3 wasn't even finished by 1.0's release, and they abandoned development on the game so there's no chance of salvaging the 2/3rds that were blatantly rushed.

Yeah, it's shallow. It's boring. There's the illusion of a big world with lots to do because everything takes forever to do.

The druids live right down the street from the goblins having trouble finding them. The only other notable neighbors are the gnolls, the hag, and the paladin outpost. What a hill to die on like utter retard

Act 1 is the most solidly "D&D like" part and was playtested tons by early access people. It helps that early player levels feel more balanced and different classes are still fun and unique. Act 2 is built around a game mechanic (the darkness stuff) which is simultaneously both annoying and pointless given how easy it is to circumvent. It's also really easy to accidentally lock yourself out of loads of content in Act 2 by talking to Isobel too early. Act 3 is great but clearly missing an extra 10- 20 hours of content which rings true when you find out giant bits of it were cut out to release the game on time. Act 3 also suffers from being way too easy even on the higher difficulties- your party will have so many OP strategies by that point you have to self impose restrictions just to make it a challenge. It also feels like you just run from boss fight to boss fight without real progression/ exploration.

I will say this is still one of the best games I've ever played and the characters who all started off seeming like reddit incarnate really grow on you. It 100% feels like a coherent journey you go through with them and my autistic ass at least felt like I was leaving good friends behind when I stopped playing.

Honestly if this game just had another couple of years in development it would have gone from one of the best to being transcendent.

Half finished games are Larians special. I backed DoS 1 and had fun with it but I'd never back any of their games again.

It's weird having an 'open world' designed completely around paths that you cannot deviate from.

Entire game feels okay, but I dropped it after getting to Baldur's Gate, I just couldn't be bothered continuing.
