I told them that shinies should only count as a 6th extra bonus card like how Babies currently work. Then nobody would be angry about them, they can still use them as filler, and autismo whales who NEED to collect em all will still shell out $$$ for them.

The shiny system isn't a bad idea, just poorly executed and makes players feel punished for opening a pack with a shiny instead of making them feel like they hit the bonus spin on a slot machine; which is what I expect the intent was supposed to be. I don't think anyone would be mad about them if they were just extra, especially if they're a way to reprint old cards people may have missed while giving them a fresh coat of paint (or a shit coat of paint since it's 3D sloop but whatever).
