Honestly the idea of the townspeople in Sonic being kind of disinterested in Eggman or kind of stupid makes more sense than constantly showing the townspeople freaking out every time Eggman makes an attack because this is the same guy who they will also cheer later on to win a go-karting competition.

It is why I find the EggMoon complaints so stupid because Sonic X completely operates on this logic.
