If I liked a game and thought it was fun then the only thing I would want a remake to do is either improve graphics/controls or add additional content. The ones who start rewriting shit, removing shit, and "updating for modern cultures" are the ones who fuck everything.
Wild Arms Alter Code F for example is one of the few remakes I consider good because that is basically what it did.
Same goes for a sequel, I basically just want more content.
If I wanted something totally alien and unique i'd buy a different IP, but major companies hardly make new IPs anymore because they can't resist grifting off people's nostalgia without actually giving a shit about the original or what made it good. Bait and switch basically.
