Are my tastes shit, or from a gameplay perspective is the original Hollow Knight not that great? It has the atmosphere and visuals down perfectly but from an actual gameplay perspective it felt significantly worse than games like SoTN and Super Metroid. It's been a few years, but I recall the map system especially being really bad.

Might give it another go at some point.
