I could see their parasocial defense of the game suddenly shattered if mare no longer existed.

If I was trying to appeal to the newer audience I would be trying to lean hard on the roblox/fortnite approach which is an extension of minecraft and "Build your own fun". I think Japanese devs are fundamentally unable to comprehend this kind of gameplay so it'll never happen there. The best they could do is try and wedge into the gacha world but it's overfilled, the Sork and Chinese companies are younger and more adept at capitalizing on it, it's too late to get into that unless you have a special sizzling IP like Uma musume. But game wise the only trend I noticed before roblox recently being in the news was '4 player friendslop'. If you were creative I bet there's a way you could make that work as a JRPG: 4 niggas in a row are now 4 friendslops in a row.

Wasn't familiar with the name but
>The series is notable for its emphasis on open world exploration, non-linear branching plots, and occasionally unconventional gameplay. This distinguishes the games from most of Square's other franchises.
Pic related. That seems like a pretty good developer for something novel, not just another on rails JRPG trying to be some AAA story.
