Realistically artillery would never even come into the equation because a single heavy machine gun or rotary cannon would obliterate zombies by the thousands per minute, no matter how much zombie nerds cope. A single shot to center mass would be lights out for the central nervous system of a zombie and the dozen other zombies standing behind it.
