Going through an entire dungeon only to learn at the very end that I needed the ice rod that I somehow missed out on getting earlier in my playthrough is what made me convinced LttP was dog shit. Zelda 1 on NES fucking rocks but I have no patience for much of LttP and its awful overworld.

The Wii U version and it's not even close. It has the Gamecube's map layout (unless you play in Hero Mode), it's had the tear collection segments with Wolf Link adjusted so they don't take as long, as well as some other small adjustments to the gameplay like being able to swap to Wolf/Normal Link with a button press. It also looks the best.

To add on top of that, the Wii U version is easily emulated. Just go for it.
